Oh Hey!
Oh hey guys! Yeah, I'm engaged! I proposed to Erica on May 6th, 2011.
Here is our story about the proposal.
Dear Family and Friends,
After a year of courtship and dating, I am finally (officially) engaged to Erica Danielle Child. We are both very excited to be getting married. I know that for many of you, this isn't that much of a surprise, but to those who haven't heard, Erica and I will be sealed for time and all eternity in the Dallas Texas Temple Labor Day weekend on September 3rd, 2011.
Erica is from a small town in Texas called Gilmer. It's about a two hour drive east of Dallas. We met in September of 2009 and started to date exclusively in late April of 2010. It wasn't until February of 2011 that we decided that we wanted to get married. I wanted to meet her family and ask for her fathers blessing before the engagement, so two weeks ago I flew to Dallas and received her fathers blessing as well as her mothers. They said yes! :)
Last night, I took Erica out to dinner. She thought I was going to propose that night, but I was able to convince her I didn't have the ring yet. After dinner, I told her that some friends of mine were having a bonfire and Glens Canyon Park up Provo Canyon. We first stopped at Nunns park, where we had our first real date. We walked around and enjoyed the warm weather. Then I said we needed to go to Glens Canyon Park to help set up the fire pit. Erica was very distraught, and gave me a small lecture on how she had waited since February to get engaged. She knew that I could have the ring, but I convinced her that one more day wouldn't hurt to wait for me to propose to her. She was a little sad, but excepted the fact that I wasn't going to propose to her until the next day.
When we got there, we started walking to the fire pit site when I "forgot" that I had left some newspaper in the car to help start the fire. I ran back to my car and got the newspaper in the trunk...along with the ring in the ring box. We got to the fire pit and another friend was there. As Erica and my friend helped set up the pit, I said I wanted to go look at the river. So I walked out of site of the campsite alone. I found a rock and put the ring with the box open next to the rock and covered the ring with a little bit of brush. Hard to see, but if you looked closely, you could see the diamond reflecting the sunlight. I then went back to the campsite and asked Erica to come with me to look at the beautiful river. We left and it was just the two of us. I then stopped her right by the rock and I kissed her and told her why I loved her. I then said to her, "Erica, what's that next to the rock?" She looked and she thought it was a cigarette box at first! Then she noticed the diamond sparkling in the setting suns light. She got really excited, and hugged me and kissed me. It was euphoria mixed with tears of joy and a beautiful speechless girl. I then knelt down on one knee, picked up the ring from under the brush and asked her to marry me. Thankfully she said yes!
We just want to thank all of you for your support and kindness you have shown us this past year. We love you all and are excited for our future together as husband and wife.
